& Car Hire in Croatia
The information given below are just suggestions, for
additional advice and information the property owner’s
would be more than happy to help.
To make the most of your holiday on the Peljesac Peninsula,
we strongly recommend you hire a car. The following
car rental companies are very competitive and most of
them have desks at Dubrovnik and Split airports... National,
Alamo, Hertz, Budget, Sixt and Europe Car.
We also recommend Holiday Autos who claim to be Europe’s
largest car hire broker. www.holidayautos.co.uk
Driving from Dubrovnik Airport to the Peljesac
Peninsula
The approximate driving time from Dubrovnik Airport
to Orebic and its neighbouring villages is 2 hours.
From exiting the airport and turning right, you will
need to follow the road to Dubrovnik and Split. You
will pass the spectacular views of Dubrovnik old town
on the left, deep below you, and then you will cross
the new suspension bridge ahead. The leisurely drive
will take you through wonderful coastal scenery with
island views before you reach the turnoff left to Orebic
and Korcula. From entering the Peninsula, your journey
time is approx 1 1/4 hours and you will drive past the
historic towns of Mali Ston and Ston. The road will
then continue through beautiful ever-changing landscapes
before reaching the north coast at Drace. Following
the road through the famous wine growing region of Potomje,
you will pass the charming bay and village of Trstenik
below you on the left. Around 20 minutes from this point,
the road finally meanders down the last rocky outcrop
where you will be met by one of the finest views in
Dalmatia. The entire islands of Korcula, Mljet and Lastovo
facing Orebic town, which nestle at the base of Mt.Ilija
Driving from the U.K to the Peljesac Peninsula
(Recommended route by car)
From Ashford, Kent, travel by Euro tunnel to Calais.
As you leave Calais, follow the motorway signs in the
following order:
Calais --- Gent --- Brussels --- Liege --- Cologne ---
Frankfurt --- Nurnberg ---Munich --- Salzburg --- Villach
--- Ljubljana --- Postojna --- Rupa --- Rijeka .
Calais to Rijeka, by this route, is 950 miles and is
motorway for most of the way, except for a small stretch
from Postojna to Rupa
At Rijeka, Croatia’s second largest city, we recommend
you take the Jadrolinija ferry to Korcula as the coastal road
is long and challenging. The overnight crossing is reliable
and inexpensive. The ships leave Rijeka around 6pm and arrives
at the port of Korcula old town about noon the following day.
